Europe’s best-kept secret is only a short flight from the UK
Direct flights from London and other UK airports reach Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Iași and other cities in around three hours. Romania uses the leu (RON), cards are widely accepted in cities, and English is commonly spoken by younger people and in tourism.
What people remember is not only the castles. It is the breakfast in a guesthouse where everything on the table was made in the village, the shepherd on the mountain road, the painted church in the middle of nowhere – and how welcome they felt.

Romania through the seasons
Romania has four real seasons. The mountains are always cooler than the cities – pack a layer, even in summer.
Spring (April–May)
Mild days, green hills and blossom. Great for cities, villages, monasteries and the Danube Delta. Fewer visitors.
Summer (June–August)
Warm to hot in the lowlands and Bucharest, pleasant in the mountains. The best time for mountain roads, hiking, festivals and the Black Sea.
Autumn (September–October)
Often the most beautiful season: golden forests, harvest and wine time, comfortable temperatures. Ideal for touring.
Winter (November–March)
Cold, with snow in the mountains. Christmas markets, winter traditions and skiing. Some high mountain roads are closed.

Is Romania safe to visit?
Romania is a popular European destination. As with any trip, check the latest UK government travel advice before you go – we’re happy to talk it through.
Do I need a visa from the UK?
UK passport holders can currently visit Romania visa-free for short stays. Entry rules can change – always check the official UK government travel advice before you travel.
Which currency is used?
The Romanian leu (RON). Cards are widely accepted in cities; carry some cash for villages and markets.
How long is the flight?
Around three hours from London to Bucharest or Cluj-Napoca, with direct flights from several UK airports.
How do we get around?
Most of our Romania trips use a private driver-guide or small-group transport, so you can relax and enjoy the roads.
When is the best time to go?
Late spring to early autumn is ideal for mountains and villages; December brings Christmas markets and winter traditions.
How many days do I need?
A weekend works for a city break; 7–10 days for the classic Transylvania and Bucovina route; 14+ days to include Maramureș or the Danube Delta.
